must we really defend and celebrate the sexual revolution?

I am hardly the first person to question the sexual revolution as the bee’s knees for the human species. The trail has been blazed by folks like Germaine Greer, Andrea Dworkin, Shiela Jeffries; more recently by Louise Perry, Mary Harrington, Leah Libresco Sargeant, to name some of the authors I have actually read on the subject. They have each added their critique of a revolution apparently designed to both satisfy but also to groom the fantasies of adolescent boys. Curiously, when the premier issue of playboy hit the stands, as I remember the clip from Hefner’s FBI file, some newspaper reporting the story described it as aimed at adolescent males of all ages. Seems that may be what we got, adolescent boys who never have to grow up.

The sexual revolution we might celebrate for providing no-fault divorce to a battered woman as a path to safety for herself and her children was high jacked by the free love crowd, the pornographers, the pedophiles. And now our daughters no longer date. The options which reject hooking up, racking up body counts are outside the realm of the possible. We have barely-not-girls pimping themselves out on OnlyFans, where its owners funnel all those orgasms into body armor for the terrorists shooting children in the head. We have school libraries and classrooms exposing young children to explicit and graphic ‘sex education’ materials, driven by queer-identified advocates pushing gender ideology. We are perfectly capable of formulating a values-based and evidence-driven curricula that might serve the needs of responsible parents of all faiths or no faith at all. Instead we have watched these issues played out for divisive and partisan gain, not to mention for the profit of those who would predate upon our most vulnerable young people.

The sexual revolution may have played out just fine for lesbians, or at least the one lesbian who recently pushed back against my criticisms of it as some sort of human achievement worth celebrating. Given the stories I’m reading about young lesbians who are being told they are boys, and they have a hormone for that, . . . nah, I’m not so sure.

For the rest of the population, where men and women still yearn for opportunities to peacefully co-exist in partnership with one another, its left us a landscape looking rather like Gaza, circa 2026, at least metaphorically.

Our celebrated sexual revolution has left us with epidemic scale sexual addiction, violence, abuse, trafficking, slavery, STDs, children dependent on over-worked single parent households with degraded community support, lonliness, heartbreak, rejection, depression (with its own complement of pharmaceutical addictions), suicide, synthetic identities, guilt, shame, the death of romance, the death of commitment, the collapse of extended families; need I go on?

Who is served by hook-up culture?

Is this the best we can do for the generations to come?

No. Really.

Cui bono? Cui prodest?

Who benefits and profits?

The films and TV shows that portray the Hollywood generated expectations for contemporary mating rituals of teenagers and young adults all leave me sad. Have fun. Wear protection. Don’t catch any feels. Don’t call. Move on. Plenty of variety out there. Enjoy yourself.

Its depressing.

In my day, the whole point was to catch feelings for someone ready to catch right back feelings for you.

Despite the push back I get from political allies who hold that some sort of correct political line requires their hostility on all matters religious, we still live in a country where 67% of the population claims a religious belief, practice or affiliation with a religious community which advocates a chaste life, before and during marriage. At least that was true until five minutes ago when too many of those denominations and congregations were captured by gender ideologues.

If we are to respect the Free Exercise clause of our nation’s social contract with one another, then we must acknowledge that parents are entitled to a much larger role in their children’s education and moral development than they are currently afforded; be it by an economy which has trapped parents in a workforce paying a fraction of what our labor was worth fifty years ago; or by the gender studies majors who like to publish pronouns, and who now populate the modern sex education racket, happy to push parents aside to get at your kids.

Louise Perry’s book discusses the choice we as men get to make, between being a dad, or being a cad. We get to skate through, telling our partners its their choice, partly because we’ve been told we are not entitled to an opinion about abortion, partly because its easier and in our youthful arrogance, was that ignorance?, because we thought in the short term at least, it was more fun to be the cad. With this dynamic we abandon, at least emotionally, the very women we might have once built lifetime relationships with in her hour of most vulnerable need. But hey, we respected her choice.

My generation was taught to rely on her poisoning her body with powerful hormonal contraceptives such that she no longer understands her own fertility. Might not be the best for her health, but hey, it provides us guys with more regular sexual access to her body. Too many dismiss those who can educate us on how a woman’s unmedicated body actually works, because the ones who can share the knowledge are Catholic, and not to be trusted, apparently because our new revolutionary perspective requires that we shred whatever wisdom we might have inherited from generations before.

Adultery and often fornication remain criminal offenses in sixteen states, including my home state of Georgia. It has a storied statutory history dating back to the tablets. Is it possible that Allah, swt, then understood some of these things better than we do now.

I see us struggling to hold our balance too far out on that slippery slope. Its feel frighteningly like right over the edge comes circling the drain time.

Can we please stop celebrating this path as if it were some sort of victory for anyone but the transhumanists, pornographers, and the marketing campaigns who run porno-chic imagery to sell us their widgets.

Enough already.
